Healthy Practices in Cold and Flu Season

Healthy Practices in Cold and Flu Season:

Healthy practices this time of year can look different for each person and each family. In our home, we have a daughter with Cerebral Palsy and she is much more susceptible to illness, and each illness can become very serious for her very quickly.

We try to stay on top of keeping our home clean, and our bodies well supported as best as possible. Not just for our own health, but for the heath of our daughter as well.

High-Quality Gummy Vitamins for Adults

One of the best things I do each day is take a daily gummy vitamin to support my overall health and fill in any nutritional gaps I might have. I have been taking Gruns Daily Gummy Vitamins for well over a year now each day and they're the best vitamin I've ever tried.

They're a very high quality gummy vitamin that meets your daily needs in 13 different vitamins, while also giving daily doses of 8 other minerals that support your immune system and overall health.

You can get 40% off Gruns when you click my link, don't forget to check out their kid gummies too!

Boost Your Immune System with a Balanced Diet:

In addition to taking a daily vitamin, I try to eat healthy as well, and make sure I'm having a fruit or a vegetable with each meal. In addition to that, I make sure to have a smoothie each day after I workout that is packed with nutrients as well.

My go-to smoothie recipe is 1/2 cup spinach, 1/2 frozen fruit, 1/2 cup Greek yogurt, 1/4 cup collage powder, and enough liquid of choice (usually juice or almond milk) to blend. It's super easy to make and is another layer of adding to my body's nutritional needs each day.

Prioritize Sleep and Manage Stress

I am a huge stickler when it comes to my sleep and I don't like missing out on it, ever. I always try to be in bed by 10 pm each day and usually wake up between 5 or 7am, depending on if I'm going for an early morning run with friends that day or not.

Adequate sleep and lower stress levels strengthen the immune system, making it easier for your body to fight off infections like colds and the flu. It's also proven to reduce inflammation, improve your mood, help recovery from illness, and help with weight management.

You can't always directly reduce your own stress, but even with the craziness that is happening in your everyday life you can make changes to reduce the amount of stress you're adding to it. I like to reduce screen time during stressful seasons which helps me greatly.

Stay Active: The Benefits of Regular Exercise

Running has always been a huge part of my life, and my favorite time to do it is in the cold winter and fall months. It is so invigorating to me! I try to get out on a run 5 days a week for at least three miles. Daily exercise is proven to reduce stress, improve your immune system, improve respiratory health, and enhance your sleep quality.

Sanitize Your Linens and Bedding:

Germs harbor everywhere, especially when you have kids. I recently found out that there is laundry detergent that actually sanitizes while it cleans, and it is immediately becoming a part of our family routine.

Your kid's bedding just harbors so many germs, so we try to make it a priority to clean it weekly in the fall and winter. Using a sanitizing detergent will ensure that they're all the more cleaner when the bedding goes back onto the beds.
