If you're interested in our family morning routine and what it looks like in our house to get up, ready, and moving, this is what an average school morning looks like in our home this year.
Disclaimers for this Family Morning Routine:
My son does a hybrid homeschool/public school setup for this school year. This morning routine is based off one of the mornings that he actually goes to school. Since I feel like that is more similar to a majority of parents, I figure this routine is most helpful to share.
Other disclaimers are that my husband and I both have remote jobs where we work from home, which I understand makes part of our routine different than the average household.
Our Family Morning Routine for Fall 2024:
5:30 am: Derek wakes up and heads downstairs to his office to start working for the day. He is on east coast hours and living in Utah which means he starts early, but is also done for the day before the kids get home from school.
7:00 am: Derek wakes Kyle up, and my alarm goes off. Kyle gets dressed, makes himself breakfast, and gets his lunch packed. At this time my alarm goes off and I get up, get some clothes on, and make my bed for the morning.
7:39 am: Kyle is packed up and ready to leave for the day. I say goodbye to him, he heads out for the bus stop, and I have 6 minutes to clean up the house a bit before I have to wake Kinsley up.
7:45 am: My alarm goes off to get Kinsley out of bed. I get her to the bathroom, get her dressed, and bring her to the living room to start eating breakfast.
8:00 am: Kinsley is eating breakfast and I head back to my room to do my hair and makeup for the day and finish getting ready.
8:20 am: Derek comes upstairs and helps get Kinsley's shoes and leg braces on while I do her hair.
8:30 am: Derek carries Kinsley to the car, I get her backpack and school things together, and follow them out. Kinsley and I drive to school.
8:45 am: I drop Kinsley off at school. Depending on the morning I might stop for a coffee, or head right back to the house.
9:00 am: I am back to the house, and start my work for the day. At this point I usually sit down at my desk and spend some time in my bible and in prayer before starting my workload for the day.
My current work situation: I work part-time for a company called Aasha India, they're a nonprofit that builds water wells in India. I also do social media contracting for The Bamboo Brace. Because of Kinsley's medicaid waiver, we get paid $169 per month for the care we provide her. Then I have my blog, Instagram account, and Etsy shop. These are each three separate businesses that I run. The Bamboo Brace and Medicaid stuff are just monthly touch points that don't require day-to-day activity.
9:30 am: By this time I am working for the day. The first thing I do is get any Etsy orders out in the mail.
9:45 am: At this point I go through all of my tasks for Aasha and see what needs to be done for the day.
12:00 pm: I write and publish my blog post for the day, and then I take a break and eat lunch with Derek before the afternoon hustle begins.
This is what an average school morning looks like in our home. I'd love to know how yours varies or differs from what we do on a day-to-day basis.
