The best fall capsule wardrobe for moms in my opinion is one that is filled with pieces you love at an affordable price point that can be mixed and matched and carried over into the winter months.

Fall Capsule Wardrobe for Moms 2024
I've been doing a capsule wardrobe every year, every season for almost a decade. I truly believe in having a small wardrobe with a few key pieces and here is why:
Your closet is stuffed to the brim with pieces you don't reach for ever. This is the plight most women face with their closets. You have 4-5 things you wear and reach for all the time, so why bother with the rest?
By having a closet filled with pieces you know you like, and you know you'll wear, you'll get more use of your clothes, and spend less money.
Rotating Through Your Clothes:
At the end of each season, I go through my clothes and take out the pieces that were unfortunately duds and didn't work for me. I put them in a pile to later take to Goodwill.
Throughout the season if I stain something that I've tried 5+ times to get the stain out and it's just not coming out, I'll also put it in the goodwill pile and remove it from my closet. That way I'm not hanging onto clothes that I know I'll never wear, and then I can more easily replace it in the moment with something that I know will get worn.
I do this same thing with my kid's clothes as well. If it gets a hole, or an incurable stain, when it comes out of the wash it immediately goes into the goodwill pile. That way it's not going back into their drawers for them to attempt to wear again later.
Dress Clothes + Capsule Wardrobe:
I intentionally didn't put dress clothes into this capsule wardrobe because they're not something I wear all the time. I go to a very casual jeans-friendly church, so I'm not dressing up each Sunday. I also have a handful of dresses in my closet from weddings over the last few years. So, if I need something it's there, but it's not something I'm reaching for regularly.
How Many Pieces for a Capsule Wardrobe?
By definition, a capsule wardrobe typically has 30-40 pieces. That is too many for me. A micro wardrobe has usually about 10-15 pieces, and that is just too few for me. This wardrobe consists of 21 pieces which I think is the perfect amount for me.
More items than this and it starts to be just more clothes I'm not wearing frequently, and then I'm adding to the problem of having clothes on hand that don't work for me.
Styling Capsule Wardrobe Pieces:
People might look at this capsule wardrobe and think all these pieces look very plain and boring, but they don't have to be! It's all about how you style your pieces! Here are 18 different ways that you can style these 20 pieces to work together over the fall and winter months!
Quick Styling Tips for Moms:
- A full tuck or a front tuck of your shirt immediately elevates any piece. Wear the clothes, don't let them wear you!
- Simple jewelry goes a long way. I'm wearing this same necklace with every outfit and it makes each outfit look more complete.
- Showing a little ankle elongates your leg. A super small cuff at the bottom of your jeans can make a huge difference.
I hope this post helps you get your closet ready for fall! I tried to pick affordable pieces that could work for any budget with moms in mind!
