If you're looking to revamp your closet, or the man in your life's closet, hopefully, these few pieces will provide some good inspiration for your shopping.
Men's Business Casual Capsule Wardrobe:
After three years of working from home, Derek finally started going back to work in the office a few days a week. Before the pandemic his work wardrobe was very business professional, think a shirt, tie, and dress pants, but never actually wearing the tie. Now things have relaxed quite a bit and the dress code has moved towards business casual, allowing Derek to wear jeans a lot to work, and only getting a bit more formal 1-2 times per month if he has a meeting with a director/VP from out of town. These business casual pieces are meant to look nice but still have the casual feel and comfort of wearing jeans.Benefits of a Capsule Wardrobe:
These pieces are quite literally all the clothes Derek has right now (aside from basketball shorts and t-shirts he would wear to exercise), and there are so many great reasons to pare down your wardrobe and consider a capsule wardrobe:- Less thinking about what to wear
- All the pieces work well together so you can mix and match what you want
- Less waste and fewer pieces ending up in a landfill
- You save money because you only purchase something new when something old wears out
16 Men's Business Casual Capsule Wardrobe Pieces Under $100:
These 16 business casual pieces will help to refresh you or your loved one's wardrobe without breaking the bank. There are a few pieces that are a bit more expensive, but they're great investment pieces that are classics and will last the test of time for years to come.Casual Graphic T-shirt: This Zion National Park shirt is a good graphic t-shirt to have in your collection because it's fun and modern, but doesn't scream that you got it at a souvenir shop. There might not be a lot of opportunity to wear it around the office unless it's casual Friday, but it's a good staple to have on hand when you need it.
Casual Polo Shirt: This casual polo shirt is a great staple for the days you don't want to wear a full-on button-down. The slim fit of this polo gives a more tailored look and is easier to wear in the office.
My husband also recently added this polo from andcollar to his closet and it's become his favorite shirt! Code FLAMM15 gets you 15% off at checkout.
Men's Henley Short Sleeve: This t-shirt is just a little more formal than the graphic tee option and can work well on its own, or worn underneath a sweater as well.
Blue Gingham Shirt: Blue gingham shirts are a classic workwear piece that you can style to be as casual or formal as you'd like. Wear it on its own with jeans for a more casual look, or pair it with khakis and a blazer if you're going for a more professional look. This one from &collar is stain-proof and made from recycled water bottles, which is pretty fun. You can get 15% off with code FLAMM15 at checkout.
Pull Over Sweater: Derek has two of these pullover sweaters from Amazon, one in maroon and one in navy. They're worn frequently in the winter for him, and he's worn them both in family pictures in different years. A great closet classic, and they hold up well in the wash.
Amazon Essentials Plaid Button-Down: We purchased this shirt recently and it's quickly become one of Derek's favorites. He frequently pairs it with jeans and casual sneakers, and it's been his go-to look for work most days.
Amazon Essentials Slim Fit Shirt: This dusty blue/gray shirt is another closet staple for when Derek doesn't necessarily want to wear plaid for the third day in a row. It can easily be dressed down with jeans, or dressed up with more professional work pants.
St. John's Bay Performance Oxford: Derek and I went shopping at the mall a few weeks ago and he bought this shirt, which is the purchase that kicked off all other purchases for this capsule (although he owned most of these items, but we did purchase 4-5 things from Amazon to finish it off). It's a great color, fits well, and is a great casual piece to have on hand.
Slim Fit Knit Sport Coat: This is the most expensive item on this list at just over $100 (the sale price changes on it a lot!), but it is VERY nice quality. Derek bought it a few months ago when he was meeting with one of the higher-ups at work, and it's a great classic piece that will work well in his closet for years to come.
Wrangler Slim Fit Straight Leg Jean: Derek needed new jeans in his rotation because his other three pairs all had holes in the knees. We donated all of those and added two new pairs. This straight-leg slim-fit pair is tailored without being so tight that Derek never wants to wear them. They have a great tailored feel!
The Best Slim Fit Khaki Pants: These khakis are a great slim fit and tailored look that can work well with any of the items in this list. Derek wore these with the sport coat and &collar shirt when he had that big work meeting, but they've gotten great use with a variety of other shirts since. You can save 15% when you use code FLAMM15 at checkout!

Navy Slim Fit Dres Pants: I personally think that navy dress pants are the most versatile pants that a man can have in their wardrobe. They go with almost any color dress shirt, and they can give both a formal and a casual vibe. These Andcollar pants are my favorite because the stretch, they're waterproof, and they've been my husband's go-to pants for years now! Code FLAMM15 gets you 15% off!
Kenneth Cole Slim Fit Jeans: These jeans are the second priciest item on the list at $89 (but there is a $40 off coupon right now!), but I like them on Derek. They have a great tailored fit and the dark wash is so great for work. They're similar to the Wrangler jeans but just slightly darker, and slightly more tailored than the other pair.
Casual Gray Sneaker: Derek has had these sneakers for a couple of years now and they're still in excellent condition. These are his go-to shoes for work lately, and hardly ever wears regular dress shoes now. These look great with any of the pants above, and they look great with a majority of the shirt options (probably not the sports jacket). They're comfortable without being too sloppy looking, and a great balance for business casual attire.
Brown Dress Shoes: These are mostly church shoes for Derek at this point, but a great piece to have on hand when he has more formal meetings to attend. He's had these for a couple of years now and they've also held up well!
Brown Belt: This is admittedly not the same brown belt that Derek has in his closet. I have no idea where he bought it, or how long he's had it, and could not find a single receipt confirming its purchase anywhere. A belt is a belt though right?
These are all the pieces Derek currently has in his rotation for work and casual wear. Some he has had for years and others are newer pieces, but I think the key is finding things that fit within the same color palette so that all your pieces work well together!
