This year has certainly brought a lot of changes for our little family. A month ago we bought and moved into our new home, I'll be teaching physical education when school starts in August, I'll still be blogging once school starts and working in marketing for another local company. Derek also works 100% from home so with all these major needs, we definitely needed a home office space for Derek to use during the day, and for me to write, lesson plan, and do my other work in the evenings.
Our Favorite Home Office Tools:
I'm typically a very organized person, but now that I'll be teaching grades K-8 in the fall, keeping my classes and lesson plans organized is important now more than ever. I have always been huge fan of G2 line from Pilot Pen. I love that they come in a wide variety of colors so I can use one color for each of my classes. G2 is also proven to be the longest writing gel ink pen that has smooth writing and a comfortable grip. I love that I can purchase the G2 18pk from Pilot Pen and be confident that it can last me through the school year.
Another must in our home office are the Precise Marklighter2 premium dual tip creative marker. The Marklighter2 has a broad chisel tip as well as an extra fine tip designed to deliver ultra-smooth, vibrant, precision highlighting and creative writing experience. I love using these to highlight standards in curriculum that I need to include into my classes, or to mark key elements that I need revisit with my students. The Precise Marklighter2 also doesn't bleed through your paper, which is crucial for any teacher who doesn't want to ruin their lesson planner.

How We Designed Our Home Office:
When I was planning out this office I wanted it to be a space that was aesthetically pleasing for me, but also a place that Derek felt comfortable working in as well. I leaned pretty masculine with the paint colors and furniture choices, and then let my personal style show through in the decor elements.
We wanted to keep everything pretty simple with the streamlined and minimal furniture. I also hate clutter so we chose a desk that didn't have a lot drawers for things to get lost. We never really had a space to store any of our books that aren't children's books, and love that we now have the bookshelf to house them all!
Home Office Decorating Tips:
For this space we didn't want it to be cluttered with things we wouldn't be using, so we really tried to style it with purposeful items. I think books you already own make the best kind of decor, so we brought in a bunch of our favorites and styled them on the shelves. Then we brought in some plants to bring a little life into the room. Lastly, we grabbed this small globe (because every office needs a globe right?), and some vases to add to the shelf and it was complete!
I find alternating the sides of the shelf with books on one side, and other items of the other side, and then doing the opposite on the next shelf is a really great way to balance out a bookshelf.
I'm so glad we have this space finished in time for the new school year, and that I'll be able to keep myself organized with help from Pilot Pen.
