Now that we're into the second half of the school year, things can feel a bit tiresome now that the school breaks are stretched a little further apart, and it feels like there is such a long time to go before the summer break. I find adding a few new options at breakfast, or switching up our routine just a little bit is a great way to keep things fresh and exciting heading into the new year.
This New Year, General Mills is launching three new kinds of cereal at Walmart, which is bound to make your grocery shopping, and your kid's breakfast just a little more exciting. Our kids eat cereal for breakfast every single morning before school, so having a few new options will help to keep things exciting. Our kids (and Derek and I), have been loving the Jolly Rancher Cereal, Hershey’s Kisses Cereal, and Trix™ Trolls with Marshmallows Cereal. Kyle's new favorite is the Jolly Rancher Cereal, but Kinsley and I have really been loving the Trix™ Trolls with Marshmallows Cereal. All three of these are a great addition to anyone's morning routine, or could even be implemented as an after school snack!
Upstairs Morning Tasks:
Since we live in a three-story townhome right now, we divide our morning routine up by floors. All our bedrooms are on the top floor, so when we wake up the first thing we do is get dressed, brush teeth, wash face and hands, and grab backpacks, coats, or anything else we might need for school before heading downstairs.
Breakfast Time:
Once we're done with everything upstairs, we head downstairs for breakfast! I like to keep things easy for me in the morning, so we typically have one of our new favorite General Mills cereals, along with some fresh berries and some water to drink, and call it good for breakfast. I feel like we really hit all of the major food groups that we need in the morning, and our kids love having fun options like the Jolly Rancher Cereal for Kyle, or the new Trix™ Trolls with Marshmallows Cereal for Kinsley.
After Breakfast Routine:
Once the kids have eaten their breakfast, we do our last-minute school prep. Kyle is self-sufficient enough that he just grabs his coat, shoes, and backpack and heads downstairs to the garage to wait in the car for Kinsley and I. When Kinsley is done eating, I do her hair, get her shoes and leg braces on, get our dog in the kennel, and then head downstairs with Kinsley where we get in the car and finally head off to school!

Love this! We have a similar routine. Since I have to carry Emery downstairs every morning, we get dressed, do hair, DAFOs, and meds all upstairs before I bring her down. We usually stick to the same breakfast every day because it’s fast and easy. One day we will branch out.
