Toddler Friendly Chili Recipe

Toddler friendly chili is the perfect chili recipe that your entire family will love. It's not too spicy, but is loaded with great flavor and simple ingredients.

Chili is one of the few recipes I can count on my entire family eating when we all sit down to the table. I started making this toddler friendly chili when Kyle was about two-years-old and it's been a family staple recipe ever since. I love that this recipe comes together in about 20 minutes, making it perfect for a busy weeknight, but still being delicious and cozy for a warm fall weekend meal too.

Toddler Friendly Chili

What makes this chili so "toddler friendly" is that it has all the great chili flavors without being super spicy. I love spicy food, and personally feel the spicier the better, but no one else in my family shares that trait. This recipe only uses 1 tablespoon of chili powder, and then some cumin, salt, and pepper. The combination of spices makes it flavorful without bringing in all the spice.

How to Cook Toddler Friendly Chili

Toddler friendly chili is super easy to make! In a large pot on the stove simply brown your ground beef. While the beef is cooking chop your onion and prep all of your other ingredients. When the meat is browned all the way through, dump everything else into the pot, and stir it together. Once the chili comes to a boil it is finished and ready to serve.

What to Serve With Toddler Friendly Chili

Whenever we serve this recipe we usually always serve it with sour cream and shredded cheese for toppings. Derek loves using Ritz crackers for dipping, while I prefer Fritos. Cornbread is also an amazing side dish to serve with your chili. If you're feeling really crazy you could make the chili, pour it in a 9x13 pan, and then bake your cornbread right on top.

Ingredients

Toddler Friendly Chili Recipe
  • 1 lb lean ground beef (I use 93% lean)
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 1 14 oz can diced tomatoes
  • 1 14 oz can tomato sauce
  • 2 14 oz cans mild chili beans, do not drain and rinse
  • 1 14 oz can dark red kidney beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 14 oz can of corn, don't drain
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • Shredded cheese, sour cream, and chips for optional garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large pot on the stove over medium high heat, brown the ground beef. While the beef is cooking prep your other ingredients. When the beef is browned add your onions and cook for five more minutes until onions are softened.
  2. Once the onions are soften, add in your corn, beans, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, chili powder, cumin, salt and pepper. Once the mixture comes up to a boil and everything is heated evenly it's ready to serve.

    1. Here is a link to what a can of chili beans would look like! https://shopstyle.it/l/8PuS It says chili on there and is just a combination of various beans in a chili sauce which easily adds lots of good flavor to the chili without you having to buy a ton more ingredients!
