Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream in 5 Minutes

Saturday night I was craving ice cream like you wound't believe. Derek was swamped with homework, and I was too lazy to get it myself, so I tried Googling, "Cary NC ice cream delivery", can you believe I found nothing?! Someone could make bank off that idea, just saying. Sunday night came along and the ice cream craving was back. Thankfully I remembered making ice cream in chemistry class in high school and then when I Googled how to make it, we had all the ingredients ready to go. Here is a step by step photo tutorial on how it's done. I'm pretty sure any preschool aged child would think this is the greatest thing in the world.

As a side note, while this does taste like ice cream, I'm not going to try and tell you that it taste like Blue Bell or any ravish claims like that. It does however solve the ice cream craving in a pinch and is incredibly fun to make. So it is a win win.

What You Need:
2 cups ice
1 quart sized zip lock bag
1 sandwich sized zip lock bag
1/2 cup whole milk or heavy cream (heavy cream is better)
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 cup + 2 tbsp salt

Directions:

Get your supplies ready.

Put ice and salt into quart size zip lock bag.

Put cream, or milk, along with sugar and vanilla in sandwich size zip lock bag.

Seal the sandwich baggie with liquid very tightly, getting as much air as possible out of the bag, and then put the sandwich size baggie into the quart size bag, and seal tightly.

Wrap the bag in a dish towel and shake hard for five minutes.

When you're done shaking your ice cream should be hardened. Turn the bag inside out and dump into a bowl, or scoop it out of the bag. The bag with the ice cream in it will be covered in salt so try not to get any into your ice cream. By the way, I promise our bowl is clean, it's just old, and plastic #wompwomp

Top with your favorite toppings and enjoy!
